Kara ConnollyTwo of L.A.'s rising stars -- Kara Connolly (pictured above) and Carly Van Skaik (below right) -- share the featured set on our showcase.

San Diego singer-songwriter, Kara Connolly, writes fun songs that make you want to hop in a convertible and drive down the PCH with your four best friends singing along. Kara’s songwriting has been likened to pre-1989 Taylor Swift and the infectious pop hooks of Carly Rae Jepsen. The songstress recently sold-out the iconic Hotel Cafe, appeared on CMT, and her debut single drops this May, with an album following later this year, produced by Bill Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson). Despite its various shades, Kara considers the album, "an upbeat and colorful take on modern feminism," as well as, "relationship songs with a twist," in which she hopes to empower everyone (but young women in particular) through personal experience to let go of what no longer serves them, recognize their own self-worth and to never settle for less than the love and respect they deserve.   https://www.karaconnolly.com/

Carly Van SkaikRising from L.A.’s indie pop music scene comes Carly Van Skaik, a soulful and progressive singer-songwriter whose music will reignite emotions left behind. Her self-titled EP released last year, was recorded by the Grammy-nominated Dan Burns. Since the release, Carly has collaborated with a number of different producers between Los Angeles and Nashville, experimenting with her sound as she continues to release singles. Carly’s soft buttery vocal delivery has been compared to that of Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star, she has also frequently been likened to the aforementioned Lana Del Rey, as well as Nancy Sinatra. Her music has been featured on the network shows Shameless and The Magicians. https://www.carlyvanskaik.com/

Paso Robles, CA 93446
805-226-8881 [map]
Price: $15

The Naked WaitersSongwriters at Play presents a concert featuring three-part harmonizing, ukulele-focused band The Naked Waiters. They specialize in fun, melt-your-heart music. The Utah-based trio tours all over, playing weddings and ukulele festivals. Here's a video of one of their original songs, https://youtu.be/jAGmb26oGmk

So how did they get that name? Here's the story: In 2014, this group of friends inadvertantly became a band when their friend Ben asked them to be servers for a dinner date he was having with a girl. He asked them to wear speedos while serving their food to make things memorable, which they agreed to, but decided last minute to lose the speedos and only wear aprons and bowties. After the meal, the trio decided to serenade the couple with a few love songs they had been messing around with on ukuleles. It went better than expected. Word got out and the trio started getting requested at weddings, galas, farmer's markets, and now even play at festivals, corporate events, have won competitions, and headline their own concerts.
